Pianogrillo Extra Virgin Olive Oil
The Pianogrillo farm stands out for the production of an EVO (Extra Virgin Olive Oil) which has received several national and international awards.
The oil has intense aromas of unripe tomato and freshly cut grass: yellow-green in color, it is delicate, round and unobtrusive. It has an average spicy taste, while the acidity often does not reach 0.1%.
The company, with a total cultivated area of more than 80 hectares, is located in a panoramic position at the edge of the archaeological area of Akrillai, an ancient Neolithic settlement with mysterious contours and lost in the mists of time. Of the total 80, 50 hectares are olive groves, part of which are of ancient matrix, with plants that reach 800/900 years of age: the main olive cultivar is the legendary "Tonda Iblea". Other cultivars that make up the Blend Pianogrillo are the Moresca, Nocellara Messina said Verdese and modern plants of Carolea.
The Farm
The farm Still today in Pianogrillo there are ancient millstones made of lava stone, dating back to the third century AD and, within the same company, an ancient early Christian necropolis located in the area of San Nicola. It was an ancient feud, for more than 300 years, of the barons Piccione di Grassura and Molino d'Immezzo, originally from Acireale but moved to the north in pursuit of their careers. Today it is a modern farm managed by Lorenzo Piccione di Pianogrillo, the last descendant of the barons.
