The M/S Donna company's journey began in the depths of Varanger Fjord in early 2010, in Nesseby, Norway, with final destination North Cape. Here, the crew chose to settle to learn the ancient art of fishing. Today, Kjell Olav Rugset is the Scandinavian mastermind who has become the leading supplier of high-quality king crab.
The king crab
The long time spent on the boat spurred Kjell's crew toward a real king crab revolution. Knowing that much of the king crab was considered wasteful, MS Donna sought a better and more sustainable way to make it the star of the most prestigious tables. MS Donna's king crab is caught in the Finmark region of Finland and processed manually in Oslo, Norway. MS Donna's revolution involves portioning individual raw parts of the crab to create ideal ready-to-eat serving sizes with no waste.
The sustainable approach
Focusing on a circular approach and working as sustainably as possible, Kjell built the production facility in Norway to create a responsible supply chain that includes excellent working conditions, ethical labor practices, economic growth, innovation, and ecosystem protection. Guiding the company are the sustainability goals of the United Nations, MS Donna is also trying to make a difference on the creative side of processing raw materials to fight food waste.
